CONSERVATION FIRST RESPONDER ORIENTATION

We are looking for volunteers with a strong background in wildlife, forest management, invasive species, water quality and/or soil erosion control for our Conservation First Responder program.

Volunteers would further the conservation cause by meeting with private landowners. We are hosting an orientation session for the program on May 30th. If you are interested, please contact Brad Jensen at brad@huronpines.org or (989) 344-0753 x 18.

VOLUNTEERS FLOOD CHEBOYGAN COUNTY

Volunteers from the Sturgeon Guard came out in full force to help protect the sturgeon in a new way.  35 volunteers began to implement a streambank stabilization project on the Black River, in the planning since 2003. Start-up funding came through and the volunteers were ready to work.  After 120 hours of volunteer time, many pairs of dirty hands, and a healthy dose of black flies, the erosion control is finally underway.  To learn more, visit www.huronpines.org/article/70.

Down in Wolverine, volunteers helped to make the first annual Huron Pines AmeriCorps Spring Service Project a great success! We had perfect weather and over 60 volunteers participated. Volunteers removed nearly three truckloads of trash along the Sturgeon River. Everyone that participated did an excellent job. Here is a link to some of the photos taken that day. Enjoy!
