Our Mission

The mission of the Au Sable Big Water Preservation Association is to conserve and watch over the reach of river from Mio Dam to Alcona Pond and support the best interests of the entire Au Sable River system.

2011 Raffle - Proceeds Go To The ASBWPA General Fund and the Yellow Card Project

Thanks to all who bought raffle tickets for the Yellow Card Raffle.  We raised over $4500!  We are now in the process of developing a Yellow Card and corresponding website.  We hope to have both up and accessible by Traditional Opening Day (April 30th).  Stay tuned for details.

Last year's Big Water/Big Trout Raffle helped put 200 15 inch brown trout in the Au Sable last September.  Monies will also be used to work on placing more Large Woody Debris in the stretch in order to promote temperature refuge.

The Yellow Card Raffle will fund a project to educate anglers on proper catch-and-release techniques as well as reinforce the deleterious effects of water temperature on C&R survival.  We will create a page dedicated to more details on the project in the near  future.

Mike Bachelder (989-345-3234), a veteran guide with over 20 years in the business. He is THE GUIDE on the Rifle River, but also fishes the Au Sable above and below Mio as well as the South Branch, Alcona, Foote and Tawas Bay.   Trout, Steelhead and Smallmouth are his specialties.  (Hex trips are excluded since he is already booked for that time.)

"I'd like to say that it's fun to fish with Mike regardless of whether you catch fish or not, but I always catch nice fish with Mike so I can't say that."

- Thomas Buhr

Todd Zwetzig (989-225-2478/www.ausabletroutfitters.com) started guiding regularly on the Au Sable in 2005 and has extended his area of service to include above and below Mio as well as the South Branch, Alcona, Foote and Tawas Bay.  He also guides in the Bay City/Midland area on such waters as the Tittabawasee River and Saginaw Bay.  In addition to Trout, Steelhead and Smallmouth, Todd targets Carp as well.  A strong proponent of the 70 Degree Pledge, Todd is donating a smallmouth-only trip to help educate folks to the treasures of fishing during warm-weather and warm-water periods.

"Todd Zwetzig has the uncanny ability to think like a fish.  He seems to know where to find them, when to look,  and why they're in a particular spot.  Todd spends hour upon hour on the various waters he fishes so that he can provide a high-quality experience to all his clients.  In short, he does whatever it takes to help you catch more and bigger fish."
